The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) offers you some of the lowest commercial rates in the country. Our tiered rating plan allows you to choose the plan that fits best.  It’s a great way to keep your utility expenses in line and meet your specific electric and water needs. A complete Rate Application Manual is available for viewing as well as the Energy Rate Component (ERC).

• Size 0-69 kW
  E200/Small General Service – Provided to commercial customers having a monthly demand of 0 through 69 kW for general service use.
• Size 70-1000 kW
  E250/Medium General Service – Provided to commercial and industrial customers having a monthly demand of 70 through 1000 kW for general service use.
• Size 1001-4000 kW and Above
  E300/Large General Service – Provided to commercial and industrial customers having a monthly demand of 1001 through 4000 kW for general service use.
• Size 4001 kW and Above
  E400/Large Power User – Provided to commercial and industrial customers having a monthly demand of 4000 kW and above.
• Additional Rate
  E700-750/Private Area Lighting – Provided to customers who request outside area lighting.

As with any business, there are key variables that we monitor closely. They too can affect your monthly billing.

Energy Rate Component (ERC) – Provides for the recovery of the Utility's power supply costs related to fuel and purchased power and applies to all retail Electric rate classes.

Environmental Surcharge (ESC) – Provides for the recovery of the Utility's capital investment in projects required to meet Federal, State or Local environmental regulations and applies to all Electric rate classes.

• W010 Rate – Inside-City Customers – Provided for all customers who live within the city limits of Kansas City, Kansas.
• W020 Rate – Outside-City Customers – Provided for all customers who live outside the city limits of Kansas City, Kansas.
